My Sixtieth Story

Still no traction, but I persevere

This is my sixtieth post on Medium, so I’ll mark the event with a report of sorts on my progress, or the lack of it. I’m pretty much producing one story per day, usually between 600–800 words and, as often as is feasible, I use my own photos. I’m happy with the work I’m putting out there, and I enjoy writing on this platform, not least for its simplicity — write a story, find an image and post. In fact, I find the most difficult part of the process is coming up with five tags.

Inspiration from Others

I try to make my material interesting and the themes original, often recalling personal anecdotes, as these are unique to each of us. I have also posted material on true crime and grammar tips, among other topics. I never ever plagiarise, and I will always stand by my work. I do engage with other writers on the platform, some of who are extremely talented at the craft, and a delight to read. I have often found inspiration in the work of others — sufficient to make it worth my while to stump up five bucks every month.

But therein lies the problem. While I read of others on here cashing out, and posting about their earnings, I’ve yet to recuperate my monthly fee through my stories. Even that would be nice.
