My Futile Attempts at Writing Online

A combination of jam tomorrow and gaslighting in reverse

I’ve been looking at my stats across three writing platforms on which I am currently active, and there is a common theme in play. The positivity I gained from my early efforts, and the encouragement to continue, faded out to a bland nothingness on each of the platforms, and my viewing stats collapsed. But it all started so well.

On HubPages, many writers are frustrated that they can’t get their articles featured. Every single one of mine has been featured, and many have been kicked up to their Network Sites. Every time that happened, I received this email:

Congratulations. Your article was selected for a HubPages Network site — way to go! Only the highest quality articles are selected.

So, everything was moving in the right direction. Further encouragement came via an accolade I was awarded, the accompanying blurb of which stated:

You have just been awarded the Engaging Writer Accolade on HubPages, which means that you are known for writing particularly interesting articles that visitors read from start to finish. The attention span of online readers is astoundingly short, so managing to maintain visitors’ interest level reflects some real writing talent. Well done!
