Energy price hikes and cost of living crisis cause anxiety as winter approaches

I don’t want to get all Jon Snow on your asses, but winter is coming. And this winter promises to be one of extreme struggle for many people, as sky-high inflation and soaring energy costs cause anxiety, not only among those on benefits, but also for many who are earning decent money. Hardship is no respecter of status.

Sixth Largest Economy

I live alone, so I have total control over my usage and finances, and if the need arises I can usually tough it out. My heart goes out to the elderly and those with young children, who are less well equipped, and will struggle like never before. And this in a country with the world’s sixth largest economy.

A recent report on the news stated that UK food banks have started to prioritise food items that require little or no cooking; instant noodles, cup soups and suchlike. Heating a pan with sufficient water to boil pasta, or having the oven on for the time it takes to cook a Sunday roast are now deemed beyond the means of many.
